Queen Mother of Efutu and Krontihemaa - Oguaa Traditional Area, Cape Coast, GHANA

Retired Educationist (Director of Education), and also a former Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

  • A strong advocate for girls and young women’s education and empowerment, has mentored many, some of whom are occupying very important positions in society.
  • Enstooled thirty-five years ago as a queen mother. Have been a role model and a mentor to many queen mothers and even chiefs and has helped to build their capacity and to prepare them to function effectively as traditional rulers.
  • Until 2016, had been the Coordinator of the Council of Women Traditional Leaders of Ghana  had been at the forefront of the “ struggle” for the recognition of queen mothers and their admission into the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.
  • Has served on numerous Boards, Committees and Councils at the Local, Regional and National levels. These include ;
    • The Graphic Communications Group Board
    • The Environmental Protection Agency Board
    • The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board
    • The Mental Health Authority Board
  • Was appointed a member of the Cape Coast District Assembly(1988-1993), served on the Executive Committee, and the Education and the Social Services Sub-Committees
  • Again served as a member of the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly (Sept. 1999 – March 2001). Served on the Executive Committee and the Sub-Committee on Environment and Tourism.
  • Guest Teacher in  the Republic of Ireland; taught in various schools throughout the country and helped the Curriculum Unit in Shannon to prepare a module on Ghana for their Development Studies(1991/1992 Academic year)
  • Member of the Executive Committee of the Cape Coast Chapter of the Sister Cities Organization between Cape Coast and Hanover Park, Illinois, USA. Was in charge of the Schools pen-pal Program and was also the consultant on Culture.
  • Honored by OLA College of Education on the occasion of the College’s 90th Anniversary celebration (2016), for “great support and immense contribution towards Holistic, Quality, and Female Edcuation in Ghana.
  • Also honored by CAMFED GHANA on the occasion of the 2016 International Women’s Day Celebration. Also for the “ untiring effort in ensuring the empowerment of girls and young women especially on issues regarding their education”
  • Has participated in several Workshops, Seminars, panel discussions and Round-table Conferences either as a participant, a resource person/facilitator/ chairperson.
  • Very deeply involved in the promotion of Tourism  in Ghana;
    • Serves on the PANAFEST  Board of Directors
    • Chairperson  for  the PANAFEST Women’s Day Planning Committee
    • Was a member of the Central Region Tourism Development Committee which planned the First Emancipation Day Celebration in Ghana.
    • Member of Oguaa Fetu Afashye(Cape Coast Festival) Planning Committee(1990-1998).
    • Member of a delegation to Botswana on bilateral, trade and cultural issues.
  • Part of a Government delegation to Cote D’voire on issues of bilateral relations (1999).
  • Not only at Traditional Ruler/ Leader, but also a staunch Christian who combines both State and church activities and execute them to the surprise and admiration of all. An ardent member of The Methodist Church Ghana, who Serve as a Synod member of the Cape Coast Diocese, and a Conference member at the Connexional level.
  • One of the eight people who benefited from the USAID/MAEQUETTE University Training Program at the Les Aspin Center for Government in Washington DC, USA.(July-August, 1998).
  • An Honorary Rotarian
  • Currently the Vice Chairperson of the Central Regional Peace Council Board.
